This is the list of software I use on my MAC (macbook pro). Check them out, or check the CNET starter kit for mac here.
Key: Free Paid
- 4k downloader: for video downloading from Youtube.
- App Zapper: cleanly uninstall software on your Mac.
- Audacity: for audio editing. You can combine sounds using this open source software.
- BlackBerry Desktop Software: for my BlackBerry.
- CCleaner: cleans your mac, ie. cookies, history, tmp files, etc.
- FireFox: a great web browser.
- Folx: for downloading files and torrents. It's pretty good! You make threads to increase your download speed. If you want to create more threads, you have to upgrade and pay.
- iWork: good to use Arabic word processing (pages). Also, Numbers is good too. In addition, you can save to Microsoft office format and PDF format.
- iLife: I don't use it much, but I use iMovie for making movies.
- join.me: for sharing your screen over the Internet. People can view it using the web browser on join.me.
- Matlab: T___T!! It's for my Uni classes. Used for picture manipulation mostly.
- Microsoft Office: well, we are all used to using it, but the Mac version is not as good as the Windows one. It keeps not responding and stuck!!! and some doesn't support Arabic, like Word! I hope they improve it *praying*
- Miro Video Converter: for me, it's the best for converting video to various formats.
- MPlayerX: from the app store. GREAT!! it's really close to KMPlayer (windows). I like it more than VLC.
- NetBeans: I just LOVE this program! I used it for programming in Java, and now for creating JSP pages.
- NetShade: to get over your proxy. It is good to use when you want to access Skype.
- Remote Desktop Connection: it's part of the Microsoft Office Suite. You can connect to your windows laptop or desktop using IP address, but that computer needs to be on.
- Screen Flow: for screen recording (as a video).
- Sketchbook Express: from the App Store. It is really cool for drawing.
- Skitch: Good to draw on it for illustrations especially when studying. A little bit similar to Paint on Windows.
- Skype: No need to introduce it! It's the perfect software for audio conferencing.
- Split & Concat: an alternative for hjsplit for Windows. This program splits and combines files like avi or rar files. I mostly use it to combine parts of movies or drama episodes.
- TextWrangler: a great text editor. If you like to use the RTF format in TextEdit and you don't want to change the format of files every time, just use it. It it better when it comes to coding in scripting languages, ie. perl.
- The Unarchiver: It unarchive or extract files from rar files, and many other formats.
- Twitter: from the App store. I really like using it, especially that you can see the notifications and specify how they appear.
- VLC player: media player. I use it as a backup player if something didn't work on the QuickTime player of MPlayerX.
- VMWare Fusion: a virtual machine. I like how I can manipulate the virtual OS. I use it for Windows, which I already have as a bootcamp (using it, I can use the bootcamp within MAC OS X). A good free alternative is Virtual Box.
- WunderList: a great app for all you devices which sync all your tasks from everywhere. It is good when you are like me, you tend to forget.
- iAm Ringer Lite: from the app store. I used it once or twice. Good to great ringtones for the iPhone.
- Tuxera NTFS: a must have plugin to system preferences. It enables you to read and write on NTFS formatted external hard disks (Windows formatted hard disks).
